About The Artist
Debbie Barnett is a native Idahoan whose life has been consumed with ranching and a passion for art. Her fascination as a child with the graphite drawings of Leon Parson in the outdoor magazines encouraged her parents to give her a set of oils when she was ten. A family friend and the many artists in her family also fueled the passion.
She works in acrylic, graphite, colored pencil, oil and occasionally watercolor. Some of her work is painted on alternative substrates like wood limbs and conks but she also paints on traditional canvas. She paints anything and everything that catches her eye from deer and elk to cattle, landscapes and flowers. Day to day activities and work provide a wide variety of subject matter that melds perfectly with her love of art.
Her goal is to record the ranching lifestyle both past and present. The people who have kept the traditions alive also provide inspiration and subject matter.
She has had no formal art education except 4 years of high school art, but she takes advantage of the local workshops. She is a member of the Salmon River Art Guild.
Debbie accepts commissions that have included pets, ranches and murals.
She also shows her work in the various art shows throughout Idaho.
